Did you know that 19,000+ adults who live in the Richardson community don’t speak English well or at all? The Richardson Adult Literacy Center (RALC) is a nonprofit community-based literacy organization and that relies upon persons like Elaine Kollaja to support its mission of improving the lives of adults and their families through English language instruction. For the past 3 years Elaine has been teaching English as a second language classes for the RALC. She says the RALC has become a significant part of her life and she will soon be a Board Member of the Center. The RALC has over 700 students each year who pass through their classes and they rely over 650,000 donated hours to provide their services. As is usually the case when volunteering, Elaine receives more than she contributes. Elaine continues to keep her Hugo and Lyla’s Little Free Library going and has adopted a similar Little Free Library at the Richardson YMCA.

Correction: Volunteer Hours total 6,500 hours per year, not 650,000!
